Why we moved to Online Only services

Church Family,

After much consideration, planning and praying, the church staff, in conjunction with the church board, have devised a plan for how our church will move forward into the future in regards to the Coronavirus (COVID-19).  The CDC has recommended no social gatherings of more than 50 people and President Trump recently asked for no gatherings of more than10 people. I believe we should adhere to those guidelines not out of fear, but out of the good of all people.

A few notes as we move forward:

  •          Our Sunday morning services have moved to Live Stream only at 11am through at least April.
  •          We are working on making this a family service to engage all ages… additionally, Pastor Kim has some awesome resources for kids.  If you’re not receiving those email kim@portlandnazarene.com
  •          All gatherings on our church campus are closed at least through April.
  •          Church Offices will be closed through at least April, except for Wednesdays from 11am to 1pm.
  •          We are creating a Facebook group specifically for devotions and prayer requests.  Email amanda@portlandnazarene.com to be added!
  •          Since we can’t meet together in person, we will utilize the internet. We’re working to launch some online discipleship options following Easter!
  •          We will be postponing the 100 Anniversary Celebration until the fall—date TBD.
  •          If you know of anyone in our congregation that needs help during this time, please let us know by emailing covidhelp@portlandnazarene.com

We must keep loving God, loving others and serving both!

Pray for those whose jobs are being affected and for those who are at high risk!

We will be sending a weekly email communication to everyone in the church on Mondays and Thursdays and mailing letters to those without email.

Please continue to give your tithes and offerings online, via the mail, dropping it off on Wednesdays from 11am-1pm or by contacting the church office and asking us to pick it up from your porch!

Mailing Address: 409 S. Russell St., Portland, TN 37148

Remember, even though we won’t be a room physically gathering, the church is still gathering!  The church is not a place, it’s a people!  So, continue to Love God, Love Others and Serve Both!  Keep growing in Christ and keep seeking him, wherever you may find yourself!

I love you and there is nothing you can do about it!

-Pastor Matt, The Church Staff and The Church Board

Our Denomination: Nazarene

Our church is proud to be a part of a much larger body. We are a part of The Church of the Nazarene, a protestant, holiness denomination with a rich tradition of discipleship and mission minded service. The Church of the Nazarene is the largest denomination in the classical Wesleyan-Holiness tradition.
We periodically offer "Nazarene 101" classes for those who wish to know more about the history and beliefs of our denomination.  For more info on our denominational heritage, visit the Church of the Nazarene website.

What We Believe

We are a Christian People

We are united with all believers in proclaiming the Lordship of Jesus Christ. We believe that in divine love God offers to all people forgiveness of sins and restored relationship. In being reconciled to God, we believe that we are also to be reconciled to one another, loving each other as we have been loved by God and forgiving each other as we have been forgiven by God.

We are a Holiness People

God, who is Holy, calls us to a life of Holiness. We believe that the Holy Spirit seeks to do in us a second work of grace, called entire sanctification, cleansing us from all sin, renewing us in the image of God, empowering us to love God with our whole heart, soul, mind, and strength, and our neighbors as ourselves, and producing in us the character of Christ. Holiness in the life of believers is most clearly understood as Christlikeness.

We are a Missional People

As a sent people, we respond to the call of Christ and live empowered by the Holy Spirit to "go into all the world" witnessing to the Lordship of Christ. Our mission begins in worship, encourages believers toward Christian maturity through discipleship, and ministers to our world through compassion and evangelism.

The Church of the Nazarene holds these beliefs to be true. They are common to churches world-wide.

We believe in one God-the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit

We believe that the Old and New Testament Scriptures contain all truth necessary to faith and Christian living

We believe that the atonement through Jesus Christ is for the whole human race

We believe that believers are to be sanctified wholly through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ

We believe that the Holy Spirit bears witness to the new birth, and also to the entire sanctification of believers

We believe that our Lord will return, the dead will be raised, and the final judgment will take place
